DALLAS (April 25, 2016) -- CrashedToys, an online auction specializing in the sale of used and repairable powersports vehicles, and a division of Copart, Inc. (NASDAQ: CPRT), hosted record-breaking crowds at the Grand Opening on Saturday, April 23.
The event kicked off with a Ride In featuring more than 60 motorcycles cruising down John Carpenter Freeway and pulling into CrashedToys where they were met by a large crowd that grew to more than 2,500 throughout the day. Chief Executive Officer Jay Adair and General Manager Trey Cluck welcomed everyone to the new 35,000 sq. ft. entertainment-retail-auction space in The Boneyard patio where the ceremonial chain cutting took place. Live music, cold beverages, food trucks and a live online auction kept the party going until 8 p.m.
“CrashedToys of Dallas is the first of its kind to hit the market. The overwhelming response we received at the Grand Opening is proof that those in the area are hungry for a place where they can hang out and get a steal of a deal on motorcycles and other powersports vehicles,” said Jay Adair, CEO of Copart and CrashedToys.
The live online auction featured 99 items. Members from across the globe and in the CrashedToys of Dallas Clubhouse bid on used and repairable motorcycles and powersports items. The CrashedToys auction was displayed on 41 flat screens for local attendees. Members from 56 countries contributed to the 2,500 plus online auction attendees with 45% of attendees being international, joining online from Mexico to China to Poland. More than 60% of online attendees used a mobile device for the CrashedToys auction.
“This is a whole new concept for the public—there’s no other place where you can be a part of such an awesome experience while getting a great deal on powersports. I talked to Members after the auction who were in disbelief that they were able to pick up a motorcycle at such a great price,” said Trey Cluck, General Manager of CrashedToys Dallas. “We opened our doors at 11 a.m., and potential buyers flooded The Clubhouse to check out the inventory. My team and I talked about the bikes, and we even started them up so they could hear the engines roar.”
The 99 vehicles sold for a total of $375,000, with winning high bids ranging from $800 for a 2002 Honda FSC600* to $12,100 for a 2015 Polaris RZRXP100**. Items in the April 23 auction included Yamaha, Harley-Davidson, Can-Am, Suzuki and even a custom ride.
“CrashedToys is pretty awesome. If there’s something I’m looking for that I can remake or re-do, I’m going to find it at CrashedToys,” said Michael Belue, People’s Choice and first place winner in the Unlimited category of the motorcycle bike show.
Celebrity judges were Chuck Palumbo (former professional wrestler, mechanic and reality TV personality), Mike Metzger (American Freestyle Motocross rider and 5-time X Game medalist) and Steve Caballero (musician and professional skateboarder). The celebrity judges rated more than 30 bikes that were entered in the CrashedToys of Dallas inaugural Motorcycle Bike Show. The winners were as follows:
