Kansas Licensing Requirements

Kansas Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in Kansas?

Without business licenses, private individuals buying in Kansas may purchase salvage titled items on their own but will need to go through a Broker for all clean titled vehicles, as well as boats, jet skis and snowmobiles.

If you're buying in another state, view the State Licensing Overview or search our No License Required inventory.

In Kansas, dealers, dismantlers, general businesses and exporters will need to provide Copart an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms.

The Kansas Department of Revenue issues dealer licenses (New & Used Vehicle Dealer and Wholesale Dealer licenses) and the dismantler license (Salvage Vehicle Dealer License). Your local municipality can set you up with a business license.

You can get your Retailers’ Sales Tax Registration Certificate from the Kansas Department of Revenue. Wholesalers may submit Form ST-28M in place of the sales tax license.

These links provide the forms and information you need to get started with licensing:

Additionally, please complete the following forms and submit them to our Licensing Department via our License Uploader. These documents will be processed within one to two business days of receipt. Click here to watch a tutorial video on how to use the License Uploader.
