New York Licensing Requirements

New York Licensing Requirements

Buying for personal use in New York?

Without business licenses, you will need a Broker's help to bid on clean and salvage titled vehicles in New York. You can purchase boats, jet skis and snowmobiles on your own without assistance, however.

If you're buying in another state, view the Licensing Mapor search our No License Required inventory.

In New York, dealers and dismantlers will need to provide CrashedToys an operational license, a sales tax license and sales tax exemption forms. This applies to general businesses and exporters buying clean titled vehicles too.

The New York Department of Motor Vehicles issues all dealer, dismantler, business and junk licenses. There are several types of accepted licenses within each operational license category. Be sure to get your Certificate of Authority, too. This sales tax license is issued by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

Additionally, please complete the following forms and fax them to our Licensing Department at (800) 787-8650 or email them to member.license@copart.com. These documents will be processed within one to two business days of receipt.

General businesses and exporters should also get in touch with a Broker to buy salvage items.
